Inaugural Family Impact Seminar on Attainable Housing with Colorado Policymakers

As Colorado’s Coordinating Entity for Evidence-Based Decision Making in state government, we were excited to co-host the inaugural Colorado Family Impact Seminar with the Research Translation Platform at Penn State. Family Impact Seminars are an evidence-informed model for bridging research and policy and have been implemented in 25 states across 35 years. As of April 2025, it’s now 26 states with the addition of Colorado!
Colorado’s inaugural seminar focused on attainable housing and housing stability—critical issues in our state and across the country. The topic was chosen by a bipartisan and cross-branch advisory committee made of legislative and executive branch representatives. The session reached state legislators, legislative staff, Governor’s Office staff, and agency representatives to learn about data-informed solutions to the housing crisis. The Colorado Lab selected two Colorado-based experts to provide policy-oriented research presentations:
- Heidi Aggeler, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Root Policy Research, shared research on strategies to promote building the right homes in the right places; and
- Dr. Josh Barocas, Associate Professor of Medicine at CU Anschutz, shared four evidence-based keys to help keep people in their homes throughout various life stages.
Participants also received a Briefing Packet summarizing the speakers’ research, analyses of select laws, and the impact of policies and programs on families. To learn more, please contact Dr. Courtney Everson.
