The Colorado Lab serves as the Family First Evidence-Building Hub, providing guidance to the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) to ensure strategic investments in evidence building for child welfare programs and services that aim to keep children safe and more families together. We’re excited to celebrate an important milestone in this work: the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) component has transitioned to the CDHS Division of Child Welfare for long-term management. CDHS staff will now lead the use of the Family First Prevention Services Dashboard that displays actionable information on the programs and geographic areas that need additional support to deliver prevention services with fidelity and drive positive outcomes for Colorado child welfare-involved families.

“We worked closely with Child Welfare staff, program developers, and implementation experts to develop the metrics necessary to effectively measure and monitor the fidelity of implementation for Family First prevention services,” said Dr. Elysia Versen, Deputy Executive Director/COO for the Colorado Lab. “A core value of the Colorado Lab is to build the capacity of partners to achieve goals and sustain their use of evidence-based decision making in a cost-effective manner.”

“This CQI capacity was developed by the Colorado Lab through a one-time investment using Family First Transition Act funds that is producing long-term value. For our team, the Family First Prevention Services Dashboard is more than a snapshot of fidelity among the evidence-based programs in the state; it is an opportunity for CDHS to view trends that open up rich discussion possibilities with Program Intermediaries about gaps, barriers, support needed, and celebrations. With the vast expertise of the Colorado Lab, and attention to detail, the transition of the Dashboard has been a seamless process,” said Amy Sciangula, Prevention and Core Services Administrator for the Colorado Division of Child Welfare, Child Protection and Prevention Services.
