New Report: Child Abuse Prevention Investment Strategy
The Colorado Lab partnered with the Colorado Child Abuse Prevention (COCAP) Trust Fund to develop a data-informed prevention investment strategy to help align and accelerate child maltreatment and family strengthening across Colorado. The investment strategy will be used by the COCAP Board to advance evidence-based decision making and smart state investments in child maltreatment prevention.
Key Colorado Data Points
- 23% of children (0-8 years old) who need mental health support are not receiving it
- 72.8% of adults in need of substance use services are not comfortable talking about it
- 32% of birthing people are at or below 185% of the federal poverty line
- 73% of child maltreatment allegations in Colorado are due to neglect
The Prevention Investment Strategy: Policy and Practice Recommendations for the Colorado Child Abuse Prevention Trust Fund outlines a set of nine policy and practice recommendations focused on:
- Strategies for spending resources that flow to the Trust Fund;
- Opportunities to build Trust Fund resources, as part of sustaining investments; and
- Priorities for cross-system prevention investments over time.
A two-page synthesis is also available to support policymakers and cross-system agency leadership in understanding and taking action on the recommendations.
