A new Colorado Lab report features diverse and insightful learnings from community listening sessions that were held with parents/caregivers to better understand how social connections and support can help families thrive. Research shows that strong social connections support parents and caregivers in experiencing fewer stressors, buffer the negative experiences of stress when it does occur, and promote resilience.
CQI for the delivery of evidence-based services that are part of the Family First service a continuum ensures that Colorado children, youth, and families are, in fact, receiving the services that have been shown to drive positive outcomes. State Intermediaries engage in in depth CQI for their services. A dashboard offers a statewide view of adherence to evidence-based models for the array of services in Colorado’s Title IV-E Prevention Services Plan.
The Southwest Colorado Education Collaborative is working together with five school districts and two higher education partners to share a broader pool of resources, build partnerships with local industry leaders, and design easily accessible, interesting ways for rural students to engage in relevant career and college pathways.

The Colorado Lab is guiding and coordinating the ongoing rigorous evaluation of evidence-based services that are part of Colorado’s Family First Prevention Services Plan, in partnership with the Colorado Department of Human Services. The Center for Policy Research has been selected as the research team to design and conduct the evaluation of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
In November 2021, the Lab worked with the Denver District Attorney’s Office to complete a follow-up study to an April 2021 report to dig deeper into dismissals of filed cases and deferred judgments for defendants.
The Colorado Lab, in partnership with the Prosecutorial Performance Indicators Project, is working with District Attorneys’ Offices from across the state to develop internal and external facing data dashboards – designed to assist offices with tracking their progress toward greater efficiency, effectiveness, and fairness through data.
Each year, Illuminate Colorado honors the contributions of an exceptional individual or organization who has made significant contributions to the field of child maltreatment prevention. This year’s award was presented to the Lab’s own Dr. Courtney Everson.
