CARAN Summer Institute: Designing Research for Action

An Opportunity for Colorado Early Career Faculty Members

Join the Colorado Applied Research and Action Network (CARAN) on June 12, 2019 for a full-day institute on designing research for action.

The goal of the institute is to move your research agenda beyond fulfilling gaps in the literature to driving social or health policy and practice.

This CARAN Institute will focus on strategies to tailor your research questions, analyses, and timeline to match the priorities of executive, judicial, and legislative branches of government – so that your research is designed for action!

  • Discover the best strategies to align your research activities with cross-system social and health policy research questions generated by Colorado state agencies. Topic areas are expcted to include:
    • Early Childhood Education and Well-Being
    • Prevention and Early Intervention for Child Welfare and/or Justice-Involved Youth 
    • Recidivism Reduction for Adults and Juveniles
    • Healthcare Cost Reduction
  • Join a panel of state agency leaders and policymakers to discuss how to engage government partners so that research findings have direct application to policy or practice.
  • Learn about the Linked Information Network of Colorado (LINC), a new way to routinely and securely connect information across participating state agencies for research and analytics projects.
  • Connect with communications experts who will challenge you to create a strategic communications plan for your research by considering target audiences and identifying the methods, tactics, and messengers best able to reach them.
  • Engage in a conversation about balancing professional expectations and applied work.
